Hyde

Hyde is a brand of disposable vapes with no FDA marketing order: on October 6, 2022 the FDA denied applications for 32 Hyde e-cigarettes submitted by Magellan Technology Inc., and said no Hyde product had been authorized.3 New York City and New York State have since sued Magellan in federal court, and the state's complaint alleges that Magellan holds the Hyde trademark.4

Hyde Devices

Hyde devices covered here are three rechargeable disposables, the Edge Recharge, Edge Rave Recharge and Rebel Pro, with specs from retail listings because Hyde has no official site.

Who Makes Hyde?

Hyde is tied to Magellan Technology Inc., the company the FDA named as the applicant for the Hyde products it denied in 2022.3 ECigIntelligence reported in 2023 that Magellan sells devices under the trade name Hyde.5

New York's Attorney General goes further in a 2025 complaint. It alleges that Magellan is the trademark holder for the Hyde and Raz brands and the importer and purchasing arm for Demand Vape (Ecto World LLC), and that Demand Vape remains the master distributor of Hyde.4 Court filings also allege that the products are made by manufacturers in China. These are the AG's allegations, not findings by a court.

Hyde's FDA Denial

Hyde's FDA denial came on October 6, 2022, when the agency issued marketing denial orders for 32 Hyde e-cigarettes, finding that the applications lacked evidence of a benefit to adult users large enough to outweigh the risk to youth.3 The FDA said in the same announcement that no Hyde product had a marketing authorization order, and that selling unauthorized Hyde products risks seizure, an injunction or civil money penalties.

The FDA's Marketing Orders page still lists the October 6, 2022 denial orders for Magellan Technology Inc. (Hyde).1 No Hyde product appears on the FDA's list of authorized e-cigarettes, which held 48 products as of August 28, 2026.2

Hyde in Youth Vaping Data

Hyde showed up in youth vaping data in 2022: in that year's National Youth Tobacco Survey, current youth e-cigarette users named Puff Bar (14.5%), Vuse (12.5%) and Hyde (5.5%) as the brands they usually used.3 The FDA noted that students wrote in the Hyde name, so its share is likely an underestimate.

FDA Warning Letters Over Hyde

FDA warning letters over Hyde went out on May 31, 2023, when the agency announced letters to 30 retailers and distributors selling unauthorized Puff and Hyde disposables and called Puff Bar and Hyde the first and third most popular brands among youth e-cigarette users in 2022.6

Of the 14 letters from that day that were on the FDA's warning letter site when Vaping360 reported, three named Hyde products: the letter to Vaperistas LLC (Hyde Edge and Hyde Rebel), the one to TheSY LLC, doing business as Element Vape (Hyde Rebel, Hyde Retro and Hyde Edge), and the one to Superpuff Inc. (Hyde Retro).7

Hyde Lawsuits in New York

Hyde lawsuits in New York began on July 10, 2023, when New York City sued Magellan Technology Inc., Ecto World LLC (Demand Vape), Mahant Krupa 56 LLC and Star Vape Corp. in federal court, alleging sales of flavored disposables in violation of federal, state and city law and bringing RICO and PACT Act claims.8 On July 12, 2023 a Magellan and Demand Vape spokesperson called the suit a baseless attack, said the sales it cited came from an unaffiliated website the company was pursuing for cybersquatting and trademark infringement, and said it complied with PACT Act reporting.

That case is City of New York v. Magellan Technology, Inc. (1:23-cv-05880, S.D.N.Y.). Magellan and Ecto World answered the amended complaint on June 24, 2024, and the docket was still open with a filing on October 1, 2026.910

On February 20, 2025 New York's Attorney General sued 13 vape manufacturers, distributors and retailers, among them Magellan Technology and Demand Vape.11 In that case, People of the State of New York v. Puff Bar et al. (1:25-cv-01445, S.D.N.Y.), Magellan and Ecto World filed an answer on April 30, 2026.10 The claims in both suits are allegations.

Hyde Models

Hyde models listed by Tobacco Insider in February 2025 include the Curve, Color Plus, Edge, Edge Rave, N-Bar, Mag, Rebel Pro and IQ.12 The same report says Hyde's UK division was dissolved in December 2024. The FDA's 2023 warning letters also named a Hyde Retro alongside the Edge and Rebel.7

How to Spot a Fake Hyde

To spot a fake Hyde there is no maker guide to follow, because Hyde has no official website. A page titled Hyde Verification, with a box for entering a code, is hosted on demandvape.com, the domain of the company the NY AG's complaint calls Hyde's master distributor.13

Tobacco Insider says buyers report trouble verifying Hyde products because the packaging changes often.12 A site at hydevape.com uses the Hyde name, but it is an unofficial online shop, not a Hyde brand site.
