JUUL
The JUUL is Juul's original prefilled pod system, and since July 17, 2025 the JUUL device and its Virginia Tobacco and Menthol JUULpods at 3% and 5% nicotine have been FDA authorized.1

The JUUL flavors sold in the US are the two JUULpod flavors on the FDA's authorized list.2

- Menthol
JUUL Nicotine and Pods
JUUL nicotine comes in two strengths: Juul says its authorized JUULpods hold 5.0% (59 mg/mL) or 3.0% (35 mg/mL) nicotine.3
The JUUL is a closed, cartridge-based system that takes only prefilled JUULpods. Retail listings give each pod 0.7 mL of e-liquid; Juul's public pages do not state a volume.4
Is the JUUL Legal in the US?
The JUUL is legal to sell in the US with Virginia Tobacco and Menthol JUULpods, because the FDA authorized the device and those pods on July 17, 2025.1
That came three years after the FDA ordered every JUUL product off the market on June 23, 2022. The order was stayed within two weeks and rescinded on June 6, 2024, so JUUL stayed on shelves while the review went on.5 State laws can still restrict where and how it is sold; see the Juul brand page for the state settlements.
JUUL Charging and Battery Light
The JUUL charges on a magnetic USB charger and shows its battery level and use through an LED, according to retail listings.6 Juul's public pages do not list a battery size for the original device, so none is given here.
The device draws automatically when you inhale, with no button, and has an aluminum body, the same listing says.
How to Spot a Fake JUUL
To spot a fake JUUL pod, Juul says to check that the batch code printed on the box matches the code on the foil seal of the blister pack inside, that the print is sharp and that the e-liquid is clear to slightly yellow.7
Juul also says to buy from authorized retailers or Juul's own site, and to reach its support team before throwing out anything that looks wrong.
JUUL vs JUUL2
JUUL and JUUL2 take different pods: JUUL2 pods hold 18 mg/mL nicotine and carry a Pod ID chip, while original JUULpods hold 35 or 59 mg/mL.8
Both are FDA authorized in tobacco and menthol only. JUUL2 got its marketing orders on August 28, 2026, more than a year after the original JUUL.
