JUUL2 nicotine is lower than in the original pods: JUUL2 pods hold 18 mg/mL, which the FDA describes as about 1.5 to 1.6% nicotine and Juul rounds to 1.6%.3

A UK retail listing gives each JUUL2 pod 1.2 mL of e-liquid and says the pods hold 70% more e-liquid than original JUULpods.4 Juul has not published those figures on the pages that could be checked.

JUUL2 Pod ID Chip and App

The JUUL2 Pod ID chip is a small chip in every pod that Juul says keeps counterfeit pods from working in the device, according to Juul's JUUL2 announcement.3

Juul also offers an optional JUUL app, open only to users 21 and over, that can lock the device. Juul says it assembles and fills JUUL2 pods in US facilities.

How JUUL2 Got FDA Authorization

JUUL2 got FDA authorization on August 28, 2026, when the agency announced marketing orders for the device and two pods, which took the number of authorized e-cigarette products to 48.1 Juul's own statement dates the orders to August 27.3

Juul says it plans more filings for JUUL2, including 5% pods and flavors beyond tobacco and menthol, and Dow Jones reported that JUUL2 was already sold abroad, including in the UK.5 Neither of those planned products has a US marketing order.

JUUL2 vs the Original JUUL

JUUL2 and the original JUUL differ most in their pods: JUUL2 pods hold 18 mg/mL nicotine with a Pod ID chip, while original JUULpods hold 35 or 59 mg/mL.2

UK retail listings also say JUUL2 has 20% more battery capacity than the original JUUL.4 Listings disagree on the exact battery size, so no figure is given here.
