Who Makes Uwell?
Uwell is made by Shenzhen Uwell Technology Co., Ltd., the company named in the 2026 copyright line on Uwell's website.3 Uwell says its headquarters is in Shenzhen, where it runs a 3,680 square meter factory, and that it has a second, 25,800 square meter factory in Dongguan.4
By its own count, Uwell sells in 80 countries or regions and 42,000 stores, has sold 38,000,000 products and had applied for more than 300 patents by 2025.5 It also runs a second site, uwellpps.com, which says it provides ODM and OEM service for prefilled disposable products, separate from the refillable Caliburn line.4
Uwell History, From the Crown Tank to the Caliburn
Uwell history starts in 2015, the year the company says it was founded and made its name with the Crown sub-ohm tank.6 Its own timeline credits it with a plug-in coil and top-refill design in 2016 and with Pro FOCS flavor technology in 2017, the year it says its Crown III and Valyrian tanks ranked among the top three tanks worldwide.
The first Caliburn arrived in late 2018, Vaping360 reported, and quickly became one of the most popular refillable pod vapes.7 Vaping360's review of May 22, 2019 called the Caliburn Uwell's first pod system.8 Uwell dates the Caliburn A2 to August 11, 2021.9
Uwell announced the Caliburn G3 Pro on July 23, 2024 and marketed it as the first vape device with a full-screen display.10 The Caliburn G5 Lite series followed on December 10, 2025 and the Caliburn G5 on April 22, 2026.1112 Uwell's news page dates the Caliburn Air, a 39 g device with a 1,000 mAh battery, to June 15, 2026.13
Uwell and the FDA's 2020 Warning Letter
Uwell received an FDA warning letter dated April 27, 2020 that named four of its products as e-cigarettes sold without a marketing order: the Uwell Amulet Watch Pod System, the Caliburn Pod Kit, the Caliburn KOKO Kit and the Yearn Pod System.2 The letter went to Shenzhen Uwell Technology Co., Ltd. d/b/a DTD Distribution Inc. at an address in City of Industry, California, and described that firm as importing and distributing Uwell products in the US.
The FDA called the Amulet Watch Pod System particularly concerning because it resembles a smartwatch and can conceal a tobacco product from adults. It was one of ten warning letters the agency announced that day over e-cigarette products it said were targeted to youth.14 No later FDA warning letter to Uwell turned up in the sources checked for this page.2
Is Uwell Legal in the US?
Uwell products can't be legally sold under federal rules without an FDA marketing order, and as of October 2026 no Uwell product has one. None appears on the FDA's list of authorized e-cigarettes, which held 48 products as of August 28, 2026, and the FDA's page says those are the only e-cigarettes that may be lawfully sold in the US.1 No Uwell-specific marketing denial order appears on the FDA's marketing orders page either.15
Uwell's PMTA page says the company has been preparing premarket tobacco applications for some time and will submit more for additional products. It names the Caliburn G, Valyrian Pod, Caliburn Koko, Crown IV and Crown Pod as popular products and gives no filing dates.16
At the border, FDA Import Alert 98-07 lets FDA divisions detain e-cigarettes that lack premarket authorization without physical examination. The alert applies to such products in general and does not name Uwell.17
In Pennsylvania, which began enforcing its vape directory against unlisted products on October 19, 2026, Uwell was not among the six manufacturers on the state list as of October 10, 2026.18 The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the directory requires a product to have been marketed in the US as of August 8, 2016 and to have a PMTA submitted by September 9, 2020.19
How to Spot a Fake Uwell
To spot a fake Uwell device, Uwell's authentication page offers two checks: type in the digital code from the pack with no spaces or dashes, or scratch off the coating and scan the QR code underneath.20
A genuine code returns the message "This is an authentic product code."20
